We did something monumental in SBCA history! We raised 83.55 for the Susan G. Koman Cure and the Hispanic Scholarship Foundation. These charities were selected because October is breast cancer awareness and Hispanic Heritage month. Its now to time to design the mascot! Enter your design in the office.

The SBCA is also implementing a Mentoring Program that will match each student with an adult who will cultivate a one-on-one relationship. Mentors will help empower youth to make positive life choices that will enable them to maximize their potential. All volunteers will be required to complete an application and agreed to have an expanded background check before they are matched up with a student.
See Mrs. Jesse Whitaker, the school social worker, for the parent consent form, which will allow your team member to participate in the program. Click image to download files.

Fact: Charter schools are tuition-free public schools, open to all students who apply for an open seat, regardless of a student's prior academic performance or special needs. They receive state per-pupil funding and must follow the vast majority of state Department of Education regulations. Further, they must take the ISTEP test and are held accountable to the same standards for student performance and improvement as any other public school.
Fact: As public schools, charter school must comply with all state and federal laws concerning open enrollment. A charter school is forbidden by law from denying enrollment to a student based on the student's academic level or special needs.

Manufacturing is the key driver to U.S. economic prosperity, according to Rob Atkinson, president of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF,www.itif.org). But will manufacturing be the savior for the U.S. job market? No, says Bill Strauss, senior economist and economic advisor for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago (www.chicagofed.org).
Atkinson and Strauss both gave keynote presentations at Manufacturing Perspectives, a forum for the industrial press corps at Rockwell's Automation Fair in November. Although Atkinson and Strauss were at odds on a few key points (Atkinson, for example, thinks "economists are ruining thinking"), they agreed that there is a serious lack of talent available to fill vacancies within the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) sector.

Dear Parents and Team MembersHigh-speed Internet and network services are available throughout the SBCA campus, and several labs are located in various programs. When students log on to a computer, they must follow policies governing acceptable use.
Computers are for school assignments, and their use must support SBCA goals of academic success. Material stored in a student's folder must include school assignments only. Team members are strongly advised to purchase an inexpensive flash drive for storage and transport of assignments between home and school.SBCA uses software that allows them to observe and monitor students' computer work. Violators may lose network access short or long-term and may be subject to further discipline measures if they do not follow the following computer/network policies.
